Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Community Coaching Initiative?

The Community Coaching Initiative is a professional coaching programme by WORLD.SG that provides a limited number of sponsored coaching places to eligible individuals and organisations that may benefit from access to professional coaching support.

No. Participants selected for the Sponsored Coaching Programme do not pay a coaching fee for sessions provided under the programme. Sponsored places are limited and subject to eligibility, suitability and availability.

Applications are welcomed from social service agencies, charities and non-profit organisations, community and grassroots organisations, educational institutions, public sector organisations and local SMEs.

Organisations may nominate or refer individuals for coaching support. Individual applications may also be considered on a case-by-case basis, subject to programme eligibility and availability.

Priority consideration may be given to social service agencies, charities, non-profit and community organisations, educational institutions and local SMEs, particularly where access to professional coaching resources is limited.

Consideration may also be given to the potential benefit and wider community or organisational impact of the coaching engagement

Yes. Organisations may nominate or refer suitable employees or participants for consideration. Participation must be voluntary, and the individual should be willing to engage meaningfully in the coaching process.

Applications are considered based on alignment with the purpose of the initiative, suitability for coaching, the potential benefit of the engagement, the participant’s readiness and commitment to the coaching process, and the availability of sponsored places.

What happens before coaching begins?

An initial conversation is normally arranged to understand the participant’s objectives, explain the coaching process and explore whether coaching is an appropriate fit.

Selected participants may then complete a confidential intake and goal-setting process before coaching begins.

Sponsored coaching engagements will normally consist of a limited series of individual sessions, with the number and frequency agreed according to the participant’s goals and programme arrangements.

A typical engagement may involve approximately 4 to 6 sessions.

Each coaching session is generally 50 to 60 minutes, depending on the agreed coaching format and objectives.

Sessions are primarily available online for accessibility and convenience.

Face-to-face sessions may be considered by mutual agreement and subject to location and availability.

Participants are encouraged to schedule sessions approximately 2 to 3 weeks in advance wherever possible, particularly where specific dates or times are preferred.

Participants are requested to provide at least 48 hours’ notice wherever possible.

As sponsored coaching places are limited, repeated late cancellations or non-attendance may result in the remaining sponsored sessions being offered to another participant.

Coaching topics may include:

  • Leadership development
  • Career development and transitions
  • Workplace well-being and stress management
  • Resilience and adaptability
  • Communication and interpersonal effectiveness
  • Cross-cultural leadership, communication and cultural intelligence
  • Emotional regulation and self-awareness
  • Managing change and uncertainty
  • Confidence, decision-making and executive presence
  • Organisational culture, team effectiveness and psychological safety
  • Work-life integration and sustainable performance

The focus of coaching will be shaped by the participant’s individual goals, circumstances and the appropriate scope of coaching.

The coach and participant will review progress, key learning and possible next steps.

There is no obligation to continue with paid coaching after the sponsored engagement.

Is coaching confidential?

Yes. Confidentiality is fundamental to the coaching relationship.

Coaching conversations are treated as confidential, subject to any limits explained and agreed at the start of the engagement, including circumstances where disclosure may be required by law or where there is a serious concern regarding safety or harm.

No. The content of individual coaching conversations will not normally be shared with managers, HR or the nominating organisation without the participant’s consent.

Any information that may be shared — for example, attendance, agreed objectives or broad programme-level information — will be clarified with the participant at the outset and kept separate from the confidential content of coaching conversations.

Coaching is conducted with respect for client autonomy, dignity, confidentiality, informed participation, professional boundaries, integrity and cultural sensitivity.

The coach seeks to work within professional competence and in a manner that supports the participant’s interests and development.

No. Coaching is not about providing ready-made answers, directing the participant or making decisions on their behalf.

The coach facilitates reflection, asks purposeful questions, offers appropriate challenge and supports participants in broadening their perspective, examining assumptions and developing their own insights, choices and actions.

The coaching process is collaborative, with coach and participant working together through reflection, exploration and co-creation.

Coaching is primarily a developmental process focused on goals, reflection, learning, decision-making, personal and professional growth, and action.

While personal experiences and emotions may naturally arise during coaching conversations, coaching is not psychotherapy and does not provide diagnosis or treatment for mental health conditions.

Where therapeutic, medical or other specialist support appears more appropriate, this will be discussed with the participant.

Coaching is not a substitute for psychotherapy, psychiatric or medical care, legal advice or other specialist professional services.

If a participant’s needs appear to fall outside the appropriate scope of coaching or the coach’s professional competence, this will be discussed and the participant may be encouraged to seek support from an appropriately qualified professional.

Any actual or potential conflict of interest that could affect the coaching relationship will be discussed openly.

Where a conflict cannot be appropriately managed, the coach may decline, pause or discontinue the coaching engagement.

Personal information is collected only where reasonably necessary to administer and deliver the coaching programme and will be handled responsibly and confidentially.

Participants will be informed of the purposes for which their information is collected and any relevant limits to confidentiality during the intake and consent process before coaching begins.

Participants are expected to:

  • Attend agreed coaching sessions
  • Engage openly and respectfully in the coaching process
  • Take ownership of their decisions, choices and actions
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries
  • Communicate promptly about scheduling or circumstances that may affect the coaching engagement
  • Participate voluntarily and meaningfully in the coaching process
Is sponsored coaching delivered to a different standard from paid coaching?

No. Sponsored coaching is delivered according to the same professional standards and coaching principles as paid coaching.

The sponsorship relates to the coaching fee, not the quality or professional standard of the engagement.

The same expectations regarding confidentiality, professional boundaries and participant commitment apply.

A short initial conversation may then be arranged to clarify needs, eligibility, suitability, availability and the appropriate next step.
